Sometime back in October, we were sitting in an information session at the Tapestry conference on the costs of adoption. Originally we wanted to raise funds on our own because we felt that God has blessed us with the provisions to do so. But as we heard the speaker, who was also the head of Tapestry, we realized that there might have been some subconscious selfishness to our decision. He basically told us not to close off this aspect of our adoption to friends and family. Rather, allow those who care about us to participate in bringing someone new into the family.

Many of you that we have spoken to already have offered help to
us in any way you can, and we are very grateful for your eagerness. So we have
been searching for a unique way that would allow people to express their
support in a tangible way. We happened to find a fundraising idea that not only
blesses us and the donors, but even more so our child:
It starts with a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. (We chose an
elephant picture, as our nursery will have a gender-neutral jungle theme.) Each
piece will be available to be sponsored for $5, and we will inscribe the back
of each piece with the name of its sponsor. Our primary goal is to have as many
different names on the puzzle as possible. That way when we mount it in a clear
frame, our child will be able to see how many people played a part in his
adoption story. Over the years we hope that it will serve as a testimony of
love to him when he ponders his unique and special history.
As the puzzle comes together, we will post pictures of its
progress on this webpage. Or if you’d like to be emailed updates, let us know.
We are very excited about this project! I don’t know that either of us has
worked on a puzzle this large before…and I’m noticing there’s lots of solid color
in the picture, so it should be interesting! Thanks in advance to those who
would like to join us in this adventure.
